Description
Rare Chinese stone Buddha Late 6th Century Northern Qi Dynasty (550 – 577). The three dimensional standing form is mounted in a custom weighted base for display. Drapery hangs with pleaded folds and fans out around lower body. Tightly curled hair neatly formed. Losses to right shoulder and right hand at wrist. Partial loss of fingers on left hand.
Calm resting Buddha with smooth planes and distinctive tightly curled hair and downward gaze. During the Qi dynasty there was a revival of ceramics pieces as well as stone works. Original patina and weathering to the stone consistent with age. Late 6th Century Northern Qi Dynasty (550-570)
