An antique Japanese Kansai Choba Tansu (merchant chest) made of Hinoki (Cypress) wood. All original hand forged iron hardware. 6 exterior drawers with 2 sets of sliding doors. Upper doors and the left side of the lower doors originally used to store merchant books and records. Right side of lower doors has three additional drawers for storage of valuables. Access to the secret drawer is found by removing the lower doors, pushing back a wood bar above the upper drawer and removing the center hiding panel.

Age: Meiji Period (1880-1890)

Dimensions: 34″ Wide by 34 1/2″ High by 14 3/8″ Deep
