Chinese set of two (2) hollowed, wooden carvings, in a quarter-circle shape so as to be hung from the wall in a hemisphere, painted with bright iridescent pigments in shades of gold, blue, green, and red. The fronts are pierced with twisting squared bamboo designs, with bright green pigment leaves. The upper portion of one piece has a large central carving within a gold border of an old bearded man with two younger figures in red and blue clothes, standing upon gold rock formations, with a blue pigment carved background, representing water. The lower carved portion has two figures in red and blue robes within a similar gold border and with similar rocky surroundings, and one appears to be dancing. The upper portion of the second piece shows two tall beauties in matching blue robes and a shorter, red-robed figure strolling across a bridge with running waters underneath, and low-hanging tree branches, and the bottom portion shows one man kneeling before an elder man or scholar, with pointed gold rock formations surrounding them. Each carved piece may hold plants with overhanging vines. 19th century, Qing dynasty
