Description
An original pair of Japanese Edo period heavenly Tennyu temple floating beings. Each has a gold gilt finish with condition consistent with age. Both are complete and ready to be installed.
Left tennyo is depicted with drum suspended from her waist and holding a pair of sticks. The right is holding a bell and holds Shuni mudra with right hand, symbolizing patience and discipline.
These Tennyo (天女 “Heavenly 天使 Woman/Women”), are a divine kind of spiritual beings found in through Japanese Buddhism.
These crowned women, floating in intricately carved swirling clouds, represent heavenly attendants of the Buddhist realm.
