Extra large gold gilt seated antique Burmese wood Buddha. Buddhasitting in the bhumisparsha mudra. A Buddhist hand gesture where the left hand is placed in the lap with the palm facing up, while the right hand touches the ground.
Hand carved of wood, the inside is hallowed out.
The Ccondition is very good and consistent with age. Relaxed and calm face and the buddhas gaze looks forward and down.
Gold is significant in Buddhism because it represents the sun, which is associated with enlightenment, knowledge, and purity. A traditional Burmese technique that involves inlaying colored glass and mirror fragments on the surface of a Buddha figure with a lacquer called thayo.
