Chinese pair of huanghuali wood official’s hat chairs. Simply and smoothly carved with a cusped edge on the front legs. Rattan seats. Provenance: from the collection of the Santa Barbara Museum, California.
(Note regarding the Museum label: little was known about Chinese hardwoods at the time this label was made. Thus the wood is mislabeled “cherry wood”).

17th Century

Dimensions: 39 1/4″ high x 19 1/4″ wide x 17″ deep. Seat: 19 1/4″ high x 18 1/2″ wide x 15 1/2″ deep.
