Chinese painting of a pair of a pair of ducks swimming under blossoming branches by the artist, Cui Zifan (1915–2011) . The first 4 characters at the top give the title: 江上秋 Jiāngshàng Qiūsè “Autumn Color on the River”.

The next 2 characters are: 古稀 Gǔxī “Age 70”.

The characters below the flowers say: 子范 Zifan

The seal says: 崔 Cui

He has dated the painting with a word signifying his 70th year, 1985.

Cui Zifan was born in Laixi, Shandong Province into a family of farmers. As a child, his family did not have the means to provide him with art materials but he practiced on a chalk board. He studied at the Political and Military Academy of Yan’an. Later, he became the General Secretary of the Academy of Painting in Beijing, eventually becoming Vice-President. He was also the President of the Association for the Research of Flower and Bird Paintings. In 1956, he founded the Cui Zifan Art Museum in Qingdao in his home county of Laixi. Cui Zifan has exhibited internationally and his work is in many collections including those of the National Museum of China in Beijing and The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
