Description
An antique Japanese Tansu chest from the Matsumoto region of Japan made of Hinoki (Cypress) and Sugi (Cryptomeria) woods. Original Urushi lacquer finish and hand forged iron hardware. Lock plates feature an incised Kiri (Paulownia) leaf Mon (family crest) and drawer pulls fashioned in the Mokko design with elaborate back plates. Upper section has 3 drawers and lower section has 2 drawers used to safely store valuable silk kimonos.<br><br>Age: Meiji Period (1870-1890)<br><br>Dimensions: 35 1/4″ Wide by 42 5/8″ High by 16 1/2″ Deep
