Description

An antique Japanese Tansu chest known as a Gifu Choba Tansu in 2 sections made entirely of Hinoki (Cypress) wood. All original hand forged iron fittings and natural aged patina. Upper section has two sliding doors behind which business records and books were stored. The bottom section has 10 drawers of varying sizes, a pair of sliding doors and a hinged security door behind which hides 2 small drawers where valuables were kept. Side slates provide strength and support as well as visual architecture.
