Description
Exceptional Japanese Boy’s Day miniature Samurai Yoroi armor presented complete with its original Hinoki cypress wood ceremonial storage and display case. Created specifically for Tango no Sekku (Boy’s Day), this beautifully detailed miniature armor embodies the traditional samurai ideals of strength, courage, honor and protection.
The elaborate kabuto (helmet) is surmounted by a magnificent gilt dragon maedate, complemented by ornate metal fittings, richly woven red and gold odoshi lacing, gilt armor plates, menpō, sode, kote, haidate and suneate. The extensive use of vibrant silk cords, metallic fittings and finely executed textile work gives the armor an exceptionally rich and ceremonial appearance.
The armor is accompanied by its substantial Hinoki (Japanese cypress) yoroi-bako, a beautifully crafted traditional storage chest that completes the presentation. Hinoki was prized in Japan for its durability, fragrance and resistance to moisture, making it an especially appropriate material for the preservation of treasured family objects.
A remarkable example of Japanese decorative craftsmanship and the longstanding tradition of displaying miniature samurai armor for Boy’s Day.
