Description

An earthenware ceramic bowl by the late American ceramics artist, James Lovera (1920-2015). A warm yellow glaze in his signature molten lava effect with appealing drips and craters. Incised signature on the foot and dated 2006.
James Lovera was Professor of Ceramic Art at San Jose State University from 1948 to 1986 and has exhibited his work in over 200 shows within the United States. His work is in the permanent collections of: the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Phoenix Museum of Art; the Toledo Museum of Fine Arts; the Baltimore Museum of Fine Arts; the Toronto Museum; the Walker Art Gallery, Minneapolis; the Oakland Museum; Arizona State University; and other university collections.
