Description

A very rare antique Japanese samurai munitions chest, handcrafted in solid hardwood and reinforced throughout with heavy hand-forged iron straps, rivets, lockplate, and side carrying handles. Originally made for transporting gunpowder, ammunition, or matchlock firearm equipment, the chest retains its original forged hardware, iron-hasp locking mechanism, and period ink inventory inscription beneath the lid. Its robust construction reflects the practical engineering of late feudal Japan while the untouched patina and centuries of honest wear attest to its authentic military service. An outstanding collector’s example of Japanese samurai militaria and one of the more difficult forms of Edo-period transport chest to acquire.
