Japanese antique black lacquer kiseru-zutsu (pipe case) carved with Shoki the Demon Queller. The pipe case is of the must-zutsu type with two telescoping sections. Attached, is a tobacco pouch the entire outside of which is covered with tiny “forbidden stitch” embroidery. The clasp of the pouch is a menuki (Japanese samurai sword fitting) made of bronze and in the form of a man with a fan and sword and inlaid with gold crests.

Age: Meiji Period (1868-1912)

Dimensions: pipe case: 8 1/2″ long. tobacco pouch: 5 1/4″ long

Japanese antique black lacquer kiseru-zutsu (pipe case) carved with Shoki the Demon Queller. The pipe case is of the must-zutsu type with two telescoping sections. Attached, is a tobacco pouch the entire outside of which is covered with tiny “forbidden stitch” embroidery.
