Description

This elegant antique Japanese cloisonné covered container exemplifies the refined artistry of the Taishō period. The globular form is raised on three delicate feet and surmounted by a domed lid with a ribbed finial. Its richly decorated surface features an intricate network of wire scrollwork set against a deep black enamel ground.
The body is adorned with seasonal motifs including maple leaves, blossoms, and butterflies rendered in vibrant polychrome enamels. Contrasting copper aventurine-like panels shimmer beneath the decoration, creating a striking visual interplay of color, texture, and light. The dense arabesque wirework, known as karakusa, symbolizes longevity and prosperity, while the autumn leaves and butterflies evoke the fleeting beauty of nature, a recurring theme in Japanese decorative arts.
