Tall, segmented bamboo stalks rise dramatically across the panels, their black tones contrasted beautifully against the warm gold. Delicate sprays of bamboo leaves extend across the composition, while softer, more atmospheric stalks recede into the background, creating depth and movement.

The expansive gold ground provides a sophisticated sense of light and space, while the confident, spontaneous brushwork gives the painting an elegant, almost calligraphic quality. Bamboo, traditionally associated with strength, resilience, integrity, and longevity, was a favored subject in Japanese painting.
