An incredible pair of Korean black lacquer Ichung Nong (2 tier clothing chests) with highly intricate and ornate inlay completely covering the front, sides, and tops of each chest. One chest has inlaid scenes of cranes, while the other are inlaid with turtles, a popular imagery promoting longevity. Scenes of oceanside villages and rocky mountains adorn the top and sides of each chest. Brass butterfly hinges and lockplates secure each set of doors in place, with yin-yang style locks. The interior is lined in original blue paper. Provenance : Aristocratic Korean family, private collection.
