Description
Antique handcarved Japanese boxwood netsuke depicting a coiled dragon, executed in dense hardwood during the Edo period. The dragon is rendered with expressive detail and deep undercutting, its body tightly wrapped in a dynamic, sculptural composition. Space between the coils allows a loop to be tied through to carry.
The surface displays a rich, naturally developed patina from age and handling, with smoothly worn himotoshi confirming traditional use as a functional toggling device. Dragons in Japanese culture symbolize wisdom, protection, and benevolent power, making this an object both sculptural and symbolic.
