Early 16th Century Nepalese Stone Seated Ganesha.  Worn stone on face and overall front.  Seated upon a carved lotus throne.

Dimensions:8″ high (on base) 6 7/8″ high x 5 1/ 1/2″ wide x 2 1/4″ thick

Age: 16th Century

Ganesha’s elephant head symbolizes wisdom, understanding, and the ability to discriminate. He is worshiped before starting new things to clear obstacles and pave the way for progress.

There are many examples of Nepalese Ganesha art, including a sculpture in the Metropolitan Museum of Art
