The cabinet features a warm reddish-brown patina that has developed naturally over a century of use, highlighting the rich grain and character of the elm wood.
The upper section holds three drawers, each with original brass hardware shaped in a simple yet elegant form. Below, a pair of paneled cabinet doors open to reveal a spacious storage compartment, secured with a traditional round brass lock plate. The cabinet rests on squared legs with slightly recessed spandrels, giving it both strength and balance.
Jumu wood was favored in Chinese furniture for its durability and beautiful grain, often used in practical scholar’s furnishings and domestic pieces. This cabinet would have served as a functional storage chest while also representing refined taste in everyday life.
