Description

Charming Chinese figure of a monkey with young monkey and a branch full of peaches carved out of beautiful orange agate, standing on an intricately carved wooden base also with peaches. Although there are earlier depictions of monkeys in Daoist texts, one more popular Ming Dynasty story from “The Journey to the West” tells of a monkey who steals a peach from the garden of the Jade Emperor. The monkey gains immortality from the peach but is banished to earth as his punishment.
