A refined image of the deity Amitayus, known as the Buddha of infinite light in many pureland texts including the Sukhavativyuha Sutra. The central Amitayus image is surrounded by nearly a hundred or so other Amitayus images reflecting a concept found in Vajrayana and Mahayana texts of how a Buddha or Bodhisattva can be found in many locations simultaneously. The thangka contains a blessing with hand imprints and a mantra in the Bru-sha script to invoke the deity. Age: 18th century Size: length 57″ height 36.5″
