Description

This low Korean Bandaji chest is a refined and functional example of traditional Joseon Dynasty furniture. Constructed from solid hardwood, the chest features the classic Bandaji half-opening front panel, designed to allow access to the interior without disturbing items placed on top—an efficient and practical solution for domestic storage.

The surface displays a rich, naturally aged patina with visible grain and wear that speaks to generations of use. The chest is fitted with substantial hand-forged iron hardware, including corner mounts, hinges, and a prominent central lock plate, all serving both structural and decorative purposes. The restrained ironwork reflects the understated strength and balance characteristic of Korean furniture design.

Low in profile and architectural in form, this Bandaji would have been used to store textiles, bedding, or household valuables within a traditional Korean home.
