Description

An antique Japanese Tansu chest made of Kiri (Paulownia) wood. Original hand forged iron hardware with an age old replacement lock on the bottom drawer. Hirute style drawer handles. Constructed using straight dovetail joinery with hardened wooden nails. With two side Warabite carrying handles.  Used by a merchant to store valuable small items and money.

Age: Early Meiji Era (1870-1880)
