An antique Japanese Kimono Tansu made of Keyaki (Zelkova) and Suginoki (Cryptomeria) woods. Original Urushi lacquer finish and hand made iron hardware. Hinged door hides 2 drawers. Hidden recessed side handles, Warabite drawer handles and lock plates designed with a repeating stylized cloud and rain pattern complete this chest.

The writing on the back of this tansu roughy translates to: A gift from Otsuki Fukuju from Numabe Village, Shibata-gun, Showa 18, giving as a gift by matchmaker Suzuki Senzo, Lunar Calendar Showa 20.

Age: Late Meiji-Early Taisho Period (1900-1920)
