Description
An antique Japanese Kasane Tansu (chest on chest) made of Kiri (Paulownia) wood. All original hand made iron hardware and thick wood construction for strength and longevity of use. Use of straight dovetail Japanese joinery and hardened wooden nails. Upper section has lift-up carrying handles while bottom section has swivel handles used for carrying and latching the two sections together.
Used originally to store kimono and daily Japanese garments for daily wear. Contemporary uses include functioning as a dresser drawer or used side by side as a long low storage cabinet.
