Description

Hand carved antique Japanese boxwood netsuke depicting a stylized horse rendered in a compact, sculptural form. The carving captures a sense of quiet movement and personality, with particular attention given to the expressive facial features, gently arched posture, and smooth flowing contours of the body.

Executed in richly patinated boxwood, the surface displays a warm, naturally aged tone that enhances the depth and character of the carving. The subtle variations in color and polish are consistent with genuine age and handling, qualities highly valued among collectors of traditional netsuke.

Horse subjects hold enduring significance within Japanese art and culture, often associated with strength, endurance, and the samurai tradition.
