An antique Japanese Kusuri Tansu (apothecary or herbal medicine chest) with 23 drawers made of Kiri (Paulownia) and Sugi (Cryptomeria) woods. 20 herbal storage drawers with iron ring pulls and 3 larger storage drawers with Hirute handles. Side Warabite carrying handles. Original wiped Urushi lacquer finish constructed with straight dovetail Japanese joinery and hardened wooden nails.

Originally used by a Japanese herbal specialist for cures and treatment of ailments, this chest functions well in a contemporary setting either as an herbal chest or a chest for storing keepsakes.
