The entire back is gorgeously carved and piercing with balls of smoke surrounding two large dragons on either side of a solid central carving featuring robed noblemen and women and men carrying objects amongst trees and structures. Below the central carving is an upside down lucky bat clutching a coin. Either side of the back has a rectangular post, carved with squared spiral designs, and topped with a small fu-dog playing with a ball or xiu qiu. Carved and pierced dragons with gaping mouths form the armrests. Skirting the front and sides of the seat is a carved panel with lucky bats and flowers, ad the legs are shaped as lions’ feet, topped with a taotie motif (ogre face without a lower jaw). Overall extremely attractive and eye-catching. circa 1920s-30s
